Karan Johar's tweet after 'The Dirty Picture' was not telecast on national network, hit the nail right on the head about the double standards of the government. Karan in his tweet remarked that on one hand the government has awarded the best film to THE DIRTY PICTURE on the other hand it is not being considered worthwhile to be telecast in prime time. Besides, if it is to be telecast then it has to be done with so many cuts that the film would become mincemeat.
The reluctance of the government not to telecast would have been appreciated if the arm of the government that supposedly monitors the content on television would have stopped other such programmes from being aired. It would be pertinent to point out a few of such incidents, first and foremost under this category was introduction of Pamella Anderson in BIG BOSS where she was displaying here assets in a much more blatant manner than what has been shown in THE DIRTY PICTURE. Pamella Anderson show was telecast at 9 p.m.
May be they need to rethink on the whole issue and be bold enough to allow THE DIRTY PICTURE to be telecast without any cuts, as the film has been passed by the Censor Board and this additional censoring undermines the wisdom and competence of the Censor Board in passing the film. Let's hope that the better sense prevails.
