Movie Info

Kamal Krishna (Karthi) is a guy who hails from the small town of Samarlakota and he comes to Hyderabad on a purpose. He wants to meet the Railway minister and other politicians in order to save his ancestral home from being demolished by the government. However, he has a taste of the crooked politicians including the chief minister Bhupathi (Prakash Raj). Getting affected by all these experiences, Kamal decides that the only way to get things done is by gaining power. He is accompanied by an auto driver Appalraju (Santhanam). Whether he gains that power and how he does that forms the rest of the story.

  • Director Shankar Dayal surely inspired by the character in Mahabharath.Sakuni in Mahabharath moved the coins in a scheming manner and was the brain behind the crucial twists, in movie Sakuni, it is Karthi as Kamal Krishna who is the pivot behind this satirical show. This is all the way Karthis’s show and he even steals the show with his get-up in a sparkling white dhoti with spectacles which suits very well to him. Characters like Prakash Raj, Kota Sreenivasa Rao, Nasser and Radhika made their presence felt. There is no story until the interval which completely runs on comedy and actual story starts in the second half and it is mostly about the political mind game that is played by Karthi.Film doesn’t have any valid points, he suddenly turning into a political kingmaker on his very first meeting with Radhika. Roja’s relationship with Karthi is also not well etched out and she abruptly turning anti-Karthi is vague.Heroine Pranitha looks very ravishing who is just there for the dance numbers and she has nothing to showcase her acting.

There is nothing new you can get from this movie which completely failed to narrate in gripping way.if you are looking for few fun moments, mesmerizing looks of hero, and have some free time, go and watch Sakuni.

  • First half of the film has limited appeal because the pace is sluggish and narration is flashback-oriented. Second half of the film is racy. Shakuni is a political story that is told in entertaining way without bothering much about logics and complexicities. Plus points of the film are Karthi and political satires. On the flip side, one-side orientation (no all-round orientation) might make the commercial appeal of the film limited. We have to wait and see how Shakuni works at box office.

  • Sakuni may appeal to the entertainment seekers. There were few decently canned scenes and humorous dialogues. But this film demands an engaging narration and that was completely missing. You may watch it if you have nothing better to do.

  • Overall, this is a film which starts off with a good intent, has a powerful idea but the process of execution and the lack of seriousness in the situations has hampered its chances. Editing during the first half was good as the sequences between Santhanam and Karthi were different and interesting. But at few places one could get a feeling that they got dragged. Moreover, it is a dubbed flick so not many will know the likes of Santhanam in Tollywood. At the box office, this could turn out to be a below average fare.

Bottomline: This Shakuni’s dice is very weak…
